Sales Manager – Industrial Coatings
Salary Range: $90,000–$100,000 Base Salary + Commission
*Must be located within a reasonable commuting distance to Cambridge, Ontario
About the Role
Our client is seeking a hands-on Sales Manager / Technical Sales Leader to drive revenue growth while building and developing a high-performing technical sales team.
This is a player-coach role, combining direct industrial sales with sales team leadership. You will lead a team of three Technical Sales Representatives while maintaining responsibility for strategic accounts and unassigned territories.
This position is critical to scaling the business while maintaining a culture of technical excellence, integrity, and execution.
Key Responsibilities
Sales Leadership & Team Management
- Recruit, hire, onboard, train, coach, and develop Technical Sales Representatives
- Set clear expectations for territories, targets, and performance metrics
- Conduct ride-alongs, field coaching, and performance reviews
- Hold team members accountable for results, professionalism, and values
- Make personnel decisions, including promotions, corrective action, and terminations
- Build a sales culture focused on accountability, learning, and execution
Direct Technical Sales (Player-Coach)
- Actively sell industrial paint systems, coatings, equipment, and related solutions
- Manage and grow strategic accounts and non-assigned territories
- Identify customer needs and recommend technically sound, cost-effective solutions
- Conduct on-site evaluations, system specifications, and technical presentations
- Support complex or high-value opportunities alongside sales team members
- Build strong relationships with customers, suppliers, and partners
Sales Strategy & Business Growth
- Partner with senior leadership to develop and execute sales strategies
- Assist in defining territories, market focus, and growth priorities
- Track pipeline activity, forecasting, and sales performance metrics
- Identify new markets, applications, and expansion opportunities
- Provide market intelligence on customer needs, competitive activity, and product trends
Technical Expertise & Customer Support
- Serve as a technical resource for customers and internal sales teams
- Support system design, troubleshooting, and performance optimization
- Stay current on industrial coatings technologies and application methods
- Coordinate with operations, engineering, and suppliers to ensure customer success

Qualifications
Required
- Proven experience in industrial sales, ideally within coatings, paint systems, finishing equipment, or related environments
- Strong technical aptitude with the ability to explain complex systems
- Demonstrated ability to sell and lead simultaneously
- Experience hiring, training, and managing sales professionals
- Excellent communication, presentation, and relationship-building skills
- Willingness to travel up to 50%, including overnight travel
Preferred
- Experience selling capital equipment or engineered systems
- Background in industrial finishing, coatings, or automation
- Experience working in a small, entrepreneurial, or growth-focused organization
